FAQs

1) Why “nailswithonen”?

My name is typically spelled with two n’s (i.e. Jenna). Mine only has one, though, and anytime someone asks my name in any sort of official capacity where spelling is important, I’ve always given the same answer—“Jena with one n.” I’ve used that phrase as a username many times over the years.

When I started posting my nail art online, I wanted a separate space for it, changed my name to the word “nails” and as such, “nails with one n” was born.

2) Where are you located?

I work out of my apartment in Avondale in Chicago, near the intersection of Belmont and Milwaukee. For privacy and safety reasons, I don't give out my exact address until clients book appointments.

3) Do you offer acrylic/dip/regular nail polish manicures?

I only work with gel. There are a few reasons why:

1) In my home-based studio space, I don’t have the type of ventilation required for working with acrylic monomer (which is to say: it smells).

2) Gel, in all of its forms, offers a great deal of versatility to create a range of different looks and lengths, and offers comparable durability to other popular products. In other words, it does what I need it to do and I don’t feel like I’m sacrificing variety, quality or choice.

3) By focusing on one medium, I’m able to use all of my product budget on getting new colors, chromes, charms and other fun stuff instead of having to divide the product budget across things like acrylic, dip, regular nail lacquer, etc.

4) I like it the most out of the products I’ve learned to use.

4) I’m not not sure what to book. Can you help?

Sure! Take a look through my list of available services, and if you’re still not sure, feel free to send me a message on Instagram or email me and we’ll get it sorted out.

5) Do you have my favorite color of nail polish in stock?

I use a variety of high quality brands in my studio, including Kokoist, Presto, Ageha, Vetro, GellyFit, Young Nails, The Gel Bottle, and more. If you’re a die-hard devotee to a certain shade, there’s a good chance I have something similar to it—or something you’ll end up liking even more.

6) How long will my manicure last?

How long your manicure lasts will depend on your lifestyle and how hard you are on your nails, as well as aftercare. With proper care, nailswithonen manicures should last for a minimum of two weeks and as long as six weeks or more. However, it is not recommended to go too long between appointments, as this can lead to breakage, lifting, and other issues.

Most clients choose to get their nails redone every three to four weeks, depending on how fast their nails grow or how soon they want a new color/design.

7) Do I need to wear a mask?

You’re welcome to, but I don’t require it. I wear a mask during all services to prevent breathing in dust, chrome powder, glitters, etc.

8)What is your late/sick/cancelation policy?

Please arrive on time for your appointments. There is a $10 late fee if you are 10 or more minutes late. If you are more than 10 minutes late, your appointment may need to be reduced to a lesser service or canceled entirely if there is not enough time.

If you are sick, you’ll need to reschedule or cancel your appointment. Please do not come to your appointment if you are sick.

If you need to cancel your appointment, please let me know as early as you can via text, email or Instagram message so I can try to fill the appointment. Currently, I do not charge a cancellation fee as I haven’t had an issue with last-minute cancellations, however, this is subject to change if it becomes a problem.

9) What forms of payment do you take?

I accept all major credit/debit cards, as well as Zelle, PayPal and cash.

I do not take Venmo, Cashapp or other payment methods.

10) Can I book further in advance for a special event/can I book for a group?

Possibly! For special requests, please email me at nailswithonen@gmail.com.
